Start with Talking Union performed by Pete Seeger, Tom Glazer, Hally Wood Faulk and Ronnie Gilbert in 1947:
You may remember Joan Baez singing this song in the movie Woodstock. Here Joe Hill is sung by the revered (and hated) African American singer Paul Robeson.
The Black Eyed Peas sang Union in South Africa.

When people need a real boost, they choose Do You Hear the People Sing? from Les Miserables. Here the Wisconsin Labor demonstrators at the State House in Madison show us why.
People used to like labor unions. This commercial from 1978 is part of their message.
Women in the labor movement had songs of their own, especially this one. It's called Bread and Roses and sung by Joan Baez and her sister Mimi Farina.
Here is a recently released video by Tom Morello, celebrating the recent struggles of unions in our culture today.
Finally, the song written as a tribute to the women of Detroit who supported the Autoworkers strike in Flint: Union Maid. This version comes from Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Concert at Madison Square Garden, on May 3, 2009 and features Billy Bragg, Mike & Ruthy Merenda, Dar Williams and the New York City Labor Chorus

Latest round of U.S. storms claims more than 250 lives
Birmingham, Alabama
By NCN News Staff
Thursday, April 28, 2011
Multiple tornadoes touched down this week across the southern U.S., causing massive amounts of damage and killing more than 250 people. Reports state it's the deadliest tornado outbreak in the U.S. since 1974 when 307 were killed.
The Weather Channel reported more than 250 tornadoes touched down across the South between Monday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 27.
Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia were among the worst-hit areas. Northern Arkansas and St. Louis, Missouri, were hit just a few days earlier, too, with southern Missouri also dealing with significant flooding after a breached levee.
Nazarene churches exist throughout the affected region and information is starting to be made available concerning Nazarenes.
"In the wake of violent storms, District Superintendent Mark Berry and I are cutting the South Alabama District Assembly short today (Thursday) and will end at noon," General Superintendent Stan A. Toler posted on the Board of General Superintendents Facebook page Thursday morning. "The bad weather hit during an ordination service, where four were ordained."
Attendees were asked to remain at the church for their safety.
"Pastors and delegates report homes of church members destroyed, deaths, losses, and people missing," Toler continued.
At least two Nazarene families on the Alabama South District lost everything.
"The North and South Alabama districts and the South Coastal Wesleyan District will join together to form an emergency response. An offering was received in the session for these needs."
The Alabama North District Nazarene Missions International and Nazarene Youth International conventions and district assembly planned for this weekend have been cancelled due to the storms. Alabama North District volunteers have been mobilized along with Nazarene Disaster Response Rapid Response teams from Michigan and North Carolina.
An unconfirmed report states Boley, Alabama, Church of the Nazarene Pastor Jimmy and Ethel Earnest lost their home and automobiles, but they are safe.
The Georgia District was hard hit in the northern area of the state with major destruction of buildings and property. Ringgold, Georgia, was virtually wiped out, according to reports received in the Georgia District Office. Rossville, Fort Oglethorpe, Rome, and other areas have trees down and widespread power outages. No injuries in these areas to members of the church have been reported at this time.
The storms also were destructive in the Griffin/Barnesville area, said the district. One couple who attended the Griffin First Church of the Nazarene was killed and family members were injured and hospitalized with some undergoing surgery Thursday morning.
Property destruction and downed trees are prevalent in the middle Georgia area.
In Tennessee, Camp Garner Creek, a Nazarene campground, sustained flooding again. There was major flooding there last year on May 4, almost one year ago. That was referred to as a "100 year flood," but just 12 months later, the creek overflowed its banks once again.
Three buildings had flood water inside, and a tree fell on the new creek pedestrian bridge that was constructed to replace the one destroyed last year. The new bridge is intact, however.
There are no reports of damage to churches on the Tennessee District at this time.
Earlier this week, tornadoes hit Missouri and Arkansas. At least two churches were damaged and a church building roof collapsed on two youth group members in St. Louis. Fortunately, no one was hurt. For specific information from both affected districts, click here: "Tornadoes damage churches in Missouri, Arkansas".
Nazarene Disaster Response is still working in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after recent tornado damage there. Initial NDR clean-up efforts began Sunday, April 17, after the first wave of tornadoes with 22 volunteers. NDR reports more than 200 homes were destroyed and another 250 sustained substantial damage in several neighborhoods.
Donations and Crisis Care Kits will be used by NDR to support current and ongoing relief efforts. To find out more about Crisis Care Kits,

Removed student - for wearing high heal ....
Was a Florida principal really try to "protect" a young man from bullying when he brought the student into his office and ordered him to remove the high heeled shoes he had been wearing to school?
According to Fox News, the high schooler in Tampa, Florida felt "proud of who he is" and simply wore high heels because he felt comfortable in them. But teachers and the principal of the school declared it a distraction, and ordered him to stop.
A teacher called the principal's office. That teacher said the boy's shoes were disrupting the classroom. Principal Bob Heilmann says there was name calling. He asked the student to take off the heels.
"As a principal of a high school, I have to take the paternal side and make sure he's going to be okay," said Heilmann, afraid the boy would be bullied. "Anytime anyone goes out from, quote, 'the norm' or anytime anyone wants to make a statement, you have to be willing to take what comes with it."
Riverview students we talked to believe most at the school are accepting of students expressing themselves however they want, and don't care who wears high heels -- even if they don't like it.
The student in question told a friend he never felt any sort of shame...that is, until the principal got involved. And when a small protest broke out at the school, with one boy choosing to wear a dress to show his support of his high heeled friend, the principal also called him into the office and talked him into heading home to change his clothes, saying he was "concerned about [the student's] safety."
If most of the students didn't care, and the high heeled student didn't feel he was being bothered, why does the principal keep worrying so much about the potential bullying and threats to "safety" that he keeps sending students home to change? Unless maybe it is the principal with the problem?

Surya Mani Pandey: Earth day ..
Surya Mani Pandey: Earth day ..
Earth day ....2011.
As Care2 celebrates Earth Day by expanding it to Earth Week, I couldn’t help but think of the person I most associate with environmental protection, Zoe Weil. The truly inspiring thing about Zoe is her visionary grasp of the interconnectedness of humans, animals and the environment.
Don't you sometimes wonder how you as one individual can take responsibility for something as overwhelmingly complicated as the environment?
I had the honor and pleasure of hearing Zoe Weil speak for Earth Day in April 2009. My friends and I still talk about it because the thoughts and ideas she presented spoke to our hearts, minds and core values.
Zoe Weil is a pioneer in the field of humane education. She understands humane education has many aspects. She teaches about the interconnected issues of human rights, environmental preservation and animal protection. You can't focus on one without affecting the others.
If I tried to explain Zoe, and her concept of humane education comprehensively, I would need to write a book. So I'll simply try and describe her MOGO Principle, because it is a basic building block for the humane education curriculum she teaches.
MOGO is a term Zoe coined meaning Most Good. This is short for her principle Most Good, Least Harm. It is imperative to make everyday decisions by considering MOGO. Zoe identifies MOGO as having seven keys:
Live Your Epitaph - to be remembered, you must live your ideals.
Pursue Joy through Service - helping others helps oneself.
Make Connections and Self-Reflect - every action has a reaction, so think before acting.
Model Your Message and Work for Change - become what you want your reflection to be. Through your example, change will occur.
Find and Create Community - seek fellow MOGO-minded people: there is spiritual strength in numbers.
Take Responsibility - be aware that your choices affect many others.
Strive for Balance - consider the needs of others and yourself when making decisions.
"It begins with being kind, respectful, and honest in our interactions, but it doesn’t end there," writes Zoe in her book "Most Good, Least Harm: A Simple Principle for a Better World and a Meaningful Life." "Modeling your message also entails making choices about products, clothing, transportation, recreation, food, volunteerism and work that reflect your values and are peaceful, humane, restorative and sustainable."
The following video is a bit lengthy – 17 minutes – but well worth viewing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5HEV96dIuY&sns=em
It is part of a lecture by Zoe on humane education, including MOGO.
I would recommend reading "Most Good, Least Harm" to anyone interested in learning the MOGO principle. It is brief -- about 200 pages -- well written, easy to read and understand and speaks volumes. When I told her I think of MOGO as being similar to The Golden Rule, Zoe told me, "MOGO puts legs on The Golden Rule!"
"Most Good, Least Harm" won the 2010 Nautilus silver medal award in sustainability and green values. But that's not why you should read it. You should read it because it will open up a view to the world, your place and role in it and how to see things through a different set of eyes. It will inspire you to live a MOGO life.
In 2010, Zoe was inducted into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame for her work connecting animal issues with the environment and human rights issues. Zoe is the President and co-founder of The Institute for Humane Education and with a motto of "Learning, Living and Teaching for a Better World," it is a wonderful place to experience. पीएसएलवी सी-16 उपग्रह का प्रक्षेपण हुआ
Apr 20, 09:14 amं
